Curve Care+: voice perio charting for dentists
2026-10-17 Sample issue DentalWatch it Tool: Curve Care+ (Curve Dental)
Curve Dental's voice AI suite drafts notes and fills perio charts by voice, but price and Canadian data location are not published.
Today's useful thing
The job: during a perio exam, the hygienist calls out numbers to an assistant or stops to type. Then someone writes the visit note.
Curve Care+ is an add-on to Curve Dental, a cloud practice management system. DrBicuspid reported on July 21, 2026 that it is "available now for dental practices in the U.S. and Canada." It has three parts (product page):
- Perio+: the hygienist speaks probe depths chairside and the chart fills in, so one person can do the exam.
- Notes+: listens to the visit and drafts a note (a template or a SOAP note, the standard four-part clinical note). The provider reviews it before saving.
- Charting+: updates the tooth chart by voice.
- Cost: Not published. Curve says it "will be a monthly add-on to your Curve subscription," sold as a suite or single modules (product page). The pricing page asks you to request a quote. Checked 2026-10-17.
- Setup time: Not published. Curve's team switches it on, it runs on any device already running Curve, and Curve recommends a wireless clip-on microphone (product page). Curve customers only.
- Privacy check (PHIPA/PIPEDA):
- Training: "Your patient data is never used to train AI models" (product page).
- Data location: Curve says Care+ runs in the same "AWS-hosted, HIPAA-compliant environment" as the rest of Curve, with "no third-party AI vendor in the data chain" (product page). AWS is Amazon's cloud service; HIPAA is the US health privacy law. No country is named.
- Agreement: Curve's Canadian Privacy Addendum covers its role as an "agent" or "information manager" under provincial health privacy law. But section 12 says data may be stored outside Canada and the clinic consents to that. Section 14 lets Curve use de-identified data "in any manner."
- Recordings: Curve does not say whether audio is kept or deleted.
- Consent: Ontario's privacy commissioner says clinics using AI scribes are accountable for getting patient consent (OntarioMD summary).
- Verdict: Watch it. If you are on Curve, get a quote and written answers on audio storage and data location before a pilot. If you are not, this is no reason to switch.
Quick hits
- DrBicuspid reported on October 15 that 3DDX launched AI implant planning, with a 3DDX dentist checking every plan; no price given (DrBicuspid).
- Weave's AI Receptionist is in early access; Weave plans start "from $199 per month", currency not stated (checked 2026-10-17).
- Gmail's AI Inbox, which suggests to-dos from your email, is reaching paid Workspace accounts, but only for US users in US English (Google).
Try this tomorrow
- Time one normal perio exam, including any assistant help (10 minutes).
- Time how long the hygienist spends on the visit note afterwards (5 minutes).
- If you use Curve, email your rep five questions: monthly price per module, where audio and notes are stored, whether audio is kept, whether any outside company processes the audio, and whether the Canadian Privacy Addendum covers Care+ (15 minutes).
- Draft one plain sentence the hygienist can say to get consent before recording (10 minutes).
- Compare the quote with your timings. If the time saved does not cover the cost, wait (10 minutes).
Real example
We could not find one. We found no named dental practice describing results with Curve Care+ since its July launch, and Curve's blog post on ambient AI names no customers.
